Welcome to our new blog. I’m Justine Pratt, President/Partner of Creative Algorithms, LLC. Creative Algorithms is a microISV specializing in mobile software development. Currently we’re located in the Chicagoland area. You may have heard of our popular native Palm apps, Trip Boss and Date Wheel. This post will cover navigation of this blog and what I intend to cover.

I wanted to start out this blog by explaining the navigation of the site. I’m using Drupal to set it up and I’m finding this Content Management System (CMS) app very powerful, but I still have a lot to learn. So the site will most likely go through various iterations as I discover new modules and ideas for content.

You will see main links at the top: Mobile Evolution, this blog; Creative Algorithms, my company; Mobile Travel Aide, our mobile-friendly travel portal; Date Wheel, our new web app that’s in beta; about, about myself and our company; and contact, in case you have some feedback for us. I will be the main author for the blog, but on occasion, my partner, Cory Pratt, will post some interesting topics. He’s our main developer, so he’s focused on more behind the scenes items, while I’m more the “front-person.”

I wanted to start Mobile Evolution because the mobile software space is getting very exciting. Previously we had only PDA-type devices, then that expanded into Smartphones (Treo, Blackberry, Windows Mobile devices too numerous to name, multiple Symbian devices, and now the iPhone/iPod Touch), UMPC’s, and more. The operating systems were few (Palm (Garnet) OS, Windows Smartphone, Pocket PC, Symbian…), but in the recent past these have been expanded to include iPhone, Android, and some others. From the perspective of a mISV, the proliferation of operating systems can be overwhelming. You can’t possibly tackle all, and you are also not a mind-reader as to which platform will prove to be the most profitable. (More on this topic will be forthcoming.)

The explosion of web 2.0 and the social aspect is also something I want to discuss, again with a mobile flavor.

I will also endeavor to provide help, insight, and tutorials that are useful for the microISV such as ours. These will include business tools, marketing tips, and even help with graphics. When you are bootstrapping, such as we are, you put on a lot of hats. I have at least five years of experience dealing with such hats in the mobile space, and more years of managing projects in the general sense. To start, I’ve listed, in the right sidebar, links to some business tools that I couldn’t do without.

In addition to what I’ve already mentioned, you can take a peek at our current projects, listed on the right, and also my favorite sites and blogging friends (none of which are listed in any type of order–they’re all good.)

You can subscribe to this blog using the RSS feed symbol. If you like a post, please bookmark it on your preferred social bookmarking site. You may also comment or send me a note. I’m going to see how commenting goes–I want to allow anonymous comments, but may incorporate something to keep out comment spam, if necessary. I also reserve the right to remove or edit any comments that are derogatory or way off-topic.

Thanks for reading. I hope you find the content useful, interesting, and informative.
